February is the month where our sweet and romantic side comes out. Where you give your heart to your loved one, and do something extra special for Valentine’s Day.

It’s also National Heart Month too, where the British Heart Foundation shows how much they care by bringing a variety of heart conditions to everyone’s attention.

It goes without saying that by looking after yourself the best you can, you can minimise the risk of heart problems. And National Heart Month is an initiative aimed at the public, and at employers too. It encourages them to raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease to their employees.

• Coronary heart disease
• Atrial fibrillation
• Congenital heart disease

They’re also referred to as cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Risk factors linked to CVD are smoking, obesity, and physical activity. High cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes can be a factor of CVD too, as well as stress and mental health.
